Our Community Champions 2026

We are delighted to announce the winners of our Community Champions Awards 2026. Once again, there were so many people working hard to make a difference in our community that we really wanted to reward everyone. In fact, we were so impressed by the efforts of all the entrants that we have decided to automatically enter them for next year’s awards.

Owing to the high standard of entries we also decided to make four awards this year. The lucky names drawn out of the hat were Tim Fraser, who was nominated by The Yews for his voluntary work not only with the organisation, but also with Good Neighbours Care, Mid Sussex Marlins Swimming Club and acting as an external accounts examiner for a range of local charities.

We were also glad to reward Ryan Read nominated by the Bentwoods Hub. Ryan has overcome a range of difficulties, including medical issues, throughout his young life. Not only does he now attend college three days a week but also volunteers every week at the Hub and always has a smile on his face.

Debs Ryan-Taylor was another worthy winner for her tireless energy, warm hospitality, voluntary work and fundraising for Grove Garden. Specifically aimed at combatting loneliness in the over 50s, this community garden  in Clair Park serves as a vital lifeline to those in their later years proving friendship, a sense of purpose and the opportunity to learn new skills including Tai Chi, watercolour painting, kombucha making and laughter yoga.

Our final award went to Jim and Sue Stockwell who were nominated by St Peter & St James Hospice.

All of these Community Champions have given of their time, energy and expertise in helping to make our local community a better place to live. We are incredibly grateful  for the difference they make.
