With family courts stretched to breaking point subjecting families going through divorce proceedings to severe delays, the role of non-court dispute resolution (NCDR) approaches is now more important than ever.
At Tisshaws, we have always been committed to supporting families to resolve the issues resulting from separation and divorce away from the courtroom, where possible. This is because we believe it is a less confrontational and more positive and constructive way to divorce. It also makes moving on from your ex, along with being able to communicate and co-parent much easier.
Our commitment is illustrated by our membership of Resolution, an organisation of family justice professionals, committed to helping people to divorce in a better and more constructive way. Resolution and its members pledge to follow a Code of Practice that supports this ethos and sets out the principles of a non-confrontational approach to family matters.
You can read the Resolution Code of Practice here, along with what to expect from a family solicitor who is a member of Resolution https://resolution.org.uk/looking-for-help/code-of-practice/
This year Good Divorce Week 2025 runs from 10-14th November 2025 and is a Resolution initiative to highlight a better way for couples to separate, based on the principles of the Code. We stand with Resolution by following this Code of Practice, in helping our clients to divorce in the most constructive way possible using NCDR approaches including mediation, collaborative law and arbitration.
In this respect, Richard, Verity and Hana are all trained family mediators. Gilva, Richard, Verity and Yasmin are all trained collaborative lawyers, while our conference room can be set up to host arbitration meetings.
Far too many families going through separation, end up in avoidable, expensive and acrimonious court proceedings. It doesn’t have to be like this, there is a ‘better way’ by choosing to work with a firm like Tisshaws, committed to Resolution’s Code of Practice.
