Our wonderful Director, Gilva Tisshaw has been shortlisted for Sussex & Surrey Female Lawyer of the Year

We are delighted to announce that our Director, Gilva Tisshaw has been shortlisted for Sussex & Surrey Female Lawyer of the Year in the Dynamic Awards 2023.

Gilva first established Tisshaws Family Law Solicitors in 2012 and has since grown the business into the largest specialist family law firm in Mid-Sussex. Her philosophy to offer exceptional levels of legal expertise and high levels of client service within a culture of care, has ensured the business has gone from strength to strength.

Proud to have established and grown a family law practice based on professionalism, integrity, and compassion, Gilva enjoys an enviable reputation in the legal profession owing to the quality of her work.

She is a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Advanced Panel, as well as Resolution, both national networks dedicated to supporting families through the legal process. Gilva has also sat as an Assistant Coroner in Brighton & Hove since 2008 and made several recommendations which have been implemented to help prevent future deaths.

Having established a successful business, Gilva is also proud to be an active member of the local community in both giving back and making a difference. She has previously run the London Marathon to raise money for the local hospice. Each year, Tisshaws elect a Local Charity of the Year to support with donations and fundraising activities. For 2023, this is Haywards Heath Foodbank. Previous years have included Time 4 Children and Kangaroos.

During the pandemic, Gilva devised the Community Champion Awards to reward unsung local heroes with vouchers from local businesses, supporting both individuals and companies within the community. The awards were so successful, Tisshaws have continued the scheme. Similarly, Tisshaws also run an annual local photography competition, with prizes from a local camera store for both adults and juniors. Several winning prints now adorn the office walls.

Championing diversity and inclusivity has always been close to Gilva’s heart and in September 2022, her hard work in this area was recognised by the British Chamber of Commerce, with Tisshaws winning both the Sussex and Southeast Awards for Trailblazing Equality.

In line with Gilva’s views that family breakdown should be resolved with minimal confrontation and conflict where possible, the firm is committed to non-court dispute resolution approaches. All the team are members of Resolution and include two mediators and four collaborative lawyers.
